Why We Recommend Mitsubishi Electric

Mitsubishi Electric has been the #1 selling ductless brand in the United States for over a decade. Their Hyper-Heating INVERTER (H2i) technology set the standard for cold-climate heat pump performance — and the newest R454B lineup pushes efficiency even higher.

❄️

H2i Hyper-Heating

Mitsubishi pioneered cold-climate mini-split performance. H2i technology delivers 100% rated heating at 5°F and operates continuously down to –13°F. The newest H2i plus models maintain capacity to –10°F and operate to –22°F — the gold standard for Colorado winters.

🏆

Longest U.S. Track Record

More cold-climate mini-splits installed in America than any other brand. Mitsubishi has been solving heating challenges in New England, the Rockies, and the Upper Midwest since the early 2000s. Proven reliability across millions of installations.

🧪

R454B Transition

Mitsubishi’s newest models use R454B refrigerant with 78% lower global warming potential than R410A. The FX, GX, HX, WX, and EX series all ship with R454B — meeting and exceeding upcoming federal refrigerant regulations.

👁️

3D i-see Sensor

Mitsubishi’s exclusive 3D i-see Sensor scans the room for heat signatures and occupancy, then automatically adjusts airflow direction and temperature. No other brand offers this level of intelligent, hands-free comfort optimization.

📱

Kumo Cloud Smart Control

The Kumo Cloud app provides WiFi control for every Mitsubishi system — set schedules, adjust temperature, monitor energy usage, and control your system from anywhere. Compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

🔇

Whisper-Quiet Operation

Indoor sound levels as low as 19 dB — quieter than a whisper. Mitsubishi’s INVERTER-driven compressors eliminate the jarring on/off cycling of conventional systems, delivering consistent comfort without noise.

Mitsubishi’s R454B Refrigerant Transition

Starting in 2025, new HVAC systems must use low-GWP refrigerants. Mitsubishi’s R454B lineup is ready.

🌍 78% Lower GWP

R454B has a Global Warming Potential of 466 — compared to 2,088 for R410A. That’s a 78% reduction in climate impact per unit of refrigerant.

⚡ Improved Cold-Climate

Many R454B models offer improved low-temperature heating performance over their R410A predecessors. The FX series heats to –22°F vs. –13°F for the FS it replaces.

🛡️ Built-In Safety

R454B is mildly flammable (A2L classification). Mitsubishi’s new models include built-in leak detection sensors, shut-off valves, and smart control logic for safe operation.

📋 Mitsubishi R454B Models Available Now

FX, GX, HX, WX, and EX wall-mount series all use R454B. New MXZ-D multi-zone condensers and PVA air handlers also ship with R454B. The FS, MXZ-C, and older models use R410A and are being phased out. We recommend R454B models for all new installations.

Mitsubishi FAQs

Common questions about Mitsubishi mini-splits and heat pumps in Denver.

Mitsubishi has the longest cold-climate track record of any brand in the U.S. and remains the #1 selling ductless brand nationally. Their H2i technology is battle-tested across millions of installations. Daikin leads on R32 refrigerant and warranty length (12 years vs. 10 for Mitsubishi). Fujitsu’s XLTH+ offers the lowest operating temperature (–15°F single-zone). All three are excellent for Colorado — we install all of them and recommend the best fit for your specific project. Compare Daikin → | Compare Fujitsu →

Both are H2i Hyper-Heat models that operate to –22°F with R454B refrigerant. The FX is the flagship with higher peak efficiency (up to 29.9 SEER2 vs. 25.6), the 3D i-see Sensor for intelligent airflow, and Dual Barrier Coating. The GX has built-in WiFi (no adapter needed), a clean flat-panel design, and a lower price point. For most Colorado homes, either is an excellent choice — the GX offers the best value while the FX provides the ultimate in features and efficiency.

The GX Series (12K–24K BTU) with H2i outdoor unit is our top garage recommendation. It heats to –22°F, which matters for uninsulated Colorado garages. For garages with low ceilings, the MFZ floor-mounted unit works well. The WX is a solid budget option for garages used primarily for storage with occasional workshop use.

Absolutely. A single MXZ-D multi-zone condenser supports up to 5 indoor units, and the SMART MULTI supports up to 8. You can mix wall mounts, ceiling cassettes, floor units, and ducted air handlers on a single outdoor unit. For larger homes, we often install multiple multi-zone systems. This approach gives you room-by-room temperature control that’s far more comfortable and efficient than a single central system.

intelli-HEAT is Mitsubishi’s dual fuel system — it adds a heat pump to your existing gas furnace. The system automatically switches between electric and gas based on which is more efficient at the current outdoor temperature. It’s a great option if you’re not ready to remove your gas furnace but want to start saving on energy costs and reduce emissions. You’ll typically reduce gas usage by 50–75% while also getting air conditioning through the same system. Learn more about ducted options →

When registered within 60 days of installation by a licensed contractor, Mitsubishi offers a 10-year parts and 10-year compressor warranty. Without registration, coverage is 5-year parts and 7-year compressor. We handle warranty registration for every system we install at no extra charge. Note that Mitsubishi’s warranty requires installation by a qualified contractor — DIY installations void the warranty.

R454B for any new installation. Mitsubishi’s R454B models (FX, GX, HX, WX, EX) are more efficient in cold weather, have 78% lower environmental impact, and are future-proof since R410A systems can no longer be manufactured after 2025. The FX series actually heats to –22°F vs. –13°F for the R410A FS series it replaces — so you get better cold-climate performance along with the environmental benefits.

A single-zone Mitsubishi mini-split typically costs $3,800–$6,800 installed depending on the model and BTU size. Multi-zone systems range from $8,000–$18,000+ for 2–5 zones. Ducted SVZ systems range from $10,000–$18,000+ depending on capacity. All prices are before rebates — H2i cold-climate models qualify for $2,250/ton from Xcel plus $1,000 from the state, which can reduce costs by $5,000–$8,000+ on many projects.

Yes. The GX series has built-in WiFi — just download the Mitsubishi Comfort app. For all other models, add the Kumo Cloud WiFi adapter for app control from anywhere. Each indoor unit needs its own adapter. The system integrates with Amazon Alexa and Google Home for voice control. Ducted SVZ systems can also be controlled via the Kumo Cloud app.

The EZ FIT (MLZ series) is a ceiling cassette that fits between standard 16″ ceiling joists — no structural modification required. Only the flat decorative grille is visible from below. It’s the best option when you want a completely hidden mini-split installation without ductwork. Perfect for renovations, historic homes, and spaces where wall mounting isn’t practical or desirable.
