We'll tell you this before we quote you: insulating a garage before installing a mini-split is the single highest-return thing you can do. A well-sealed garage can often be handled by a 9,000–12,000 BTU head. The same garage left raw might need double that, run constantly, and still swing 15 degrees.

  • Overhead door — the biggest single loss surface. An insulated door or a retrofit panel kit changes the load math more than anything else.
  • Walls and ceiling — batt insulation plus drywall. If there's living space above the garage, insulating that ceiling helps both rooms.
  • Air sealing — the perimeter of the overhead door, the slab-to-wall joint, and any penetrations into the attic.

💡 Fix stratification, don't oversize

Garages have high ceilings and stratify badly — heat pools at the rafters. Mounting the indoor head high on the wall and running the fan on a continuous low speed does more for real-world comfort than oversizing the compressor, which just short-cycles and dehumidifies poorly.
