FAQ

Rebate Questions Answered

Can I stack the Xcel rebate with the federal tax credit?
Yes β€” absolutely. Xcel rebates and the federal 25C tax credit are completely separate programs and can be combined on the same installation. The federal credit does not reduce your Xcel rebate eligibility.
Do I need to apply for rebates before or after installation?
After installation. Xcel requires proof of installation including invoice, equipment model number, and AHRI certification. You have up to 90 days post-installation to submit your rebate application.
What makes a system “cold-climate” for the higher $2,250/ton rebate?
Xcel’s cold-climate criteria require the system to operate at rated heating capacity down to at least 5Β°F and maintain heating output (at reduced capacity) below that. Qualifying brands include Mitsubishi H2i, Daikin Atmosphera and Aurora, Fujitsu XLTH series, and Cooper & Hunter Hyper Heat. We verify this before purchase.
Does my rental property qualify for rebates?
Xcel rebates are available to both homeowners and landlords as long as the property has an active Xcel Electric account. The HEAR income-qualified program is generally limited to primary residences.
How long does it take to receive the Xcel rebate check?
Typically 6–8 weeks after Xcel approves your application. Applications are submitted online through Xcel’s rebate portal.
Is there a limit to how many units I can get rebates for?
Xcel allows rebates on multiple units per address within the same program year, subject to overall program funding availability. Multi-zone systems with one outdoor unit and multiple indoor units typically receive rebates based on total system tonnage.
